Something that is a routine in America can become an adventure in Italy, like laundry. How hard can it be, throw clothes in, add detergent, water, and in half an hour your clothes are clean, right? Well as can be seen from the photo above, Italians take their clothes very seriously. There is a booklet to accompany this washing machine, even if it was written in English I don’t think it would be any help. For my American brain, there are way too many choices. I ended up choosing the selection for “mixed cotton clothes”… I think. Well, whatever I picked, it worked.
Now my clothes are up to dry on the balcony. Adventure accomplished!
However, I have definitely needed to closely read the directions before. Below is a photo from our AirBnb in Brussels and 19 year-old me in a laundromat in Florence on my first trip aboard (I still have that scarf 15 years later!). You want to be careful in a rental place to not break their machine or flood their house. I have almost done both.
