Day trip from Munich: Dachau

I knew visiting Dachau was going to be a moving day. I think anyone would feel this way entering one of the most infamous concentration camps of the Holocaust, but it was especially sobering in this political climate. I am not about to go all anti-Trump on here but the juxtaposition was not lost on me. In a time where there is a lot of hateful rhetoric, whether or not you believe it is justified, it is eye-opening to come to a place that physically embodies this hate, this prejudice, and ultimately this massacre. I don’t care what political or religious background you come from, eradication of another’s beliefs, way of life, and principals is just utterly wrong.

I hope the lessons painfully learned during the Nazi era can reverberate in this completely messed up world we live in. We need to take these painful memories and stare them in the face and say NEVER AGAIN.

P.S. If you are looking for a moving book by a survivor of Dachau, Man’s Search for Meaning, is a powerful semi-autobiographical story of Viktor Frankl, a psychologist that worked through the torments of this time to create a new philosophy on life.
