Weekend in D.C.: Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting

October 27, 2017

So shockingly enough it took me into my mid-twenties to finally go see the fantastic collection at the National Gallery of Art. Will and I stopped by for the day while heading up to New York City on our summer road trip. And then I found out that the exhibit “Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting: Inspiration and Rivalry” was coming to our nation’s capital this fall and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go back. Vermeer is my FAVORITE ARTIST and my favorite piece, The Milkmaid, was conveniently removed from Amsterdam while I was visiting during our Spring Break trip for this specific tour. Hopefully she is traveling to Washington too otherwise I may cry in the middle of the museum and that would be incredibly embarrassing.

So today, I’m heading up to Washington, D.C. for a long weekend to explore the museums and monuments. I am traveling with an old Humanities/AP Art History student of mine. Although it’s weird going with an old student, it’s going to be a blast and I’m so excited to nerd out with a fellow art lover!
