2026 Spring Break Plan Reflection

2026 Spring Break Plan Reflection

Overall, it was a decent yet quiet and homebound spring break. Potty training went decently well, more accidents than with William but hey that means most of my house got mopped (incrementally). And mostly importantly we are diaper free! Additionally, we both got to fit in dentist appointments and Will & I each got a morning to ourselves out of the house. We have learned this is key in a happy break. Not only do we both need to feel like individuals, not parents, we spend so much time together during the day, it’s important to have alone time too. With help from the mother-in-law, Will took a half day trip to the Tampa Bay area to shadow a fellow research teacher. And, thanks to my mom, we got a date night the last Saturday of spring break.

So how did we do with our spring break stats?

  • Potty training the 2 year old – he is still not 100% accident free but we are rolling with it. Luckily his nanny is right alongside us in training.
  • Watching a movie – we nearly pissed ourselves laughing watching The Little Hours (highly adult, irreverent medieval parody film – don’t google it if you don’t like raunchy humor). We don’t let the boys watch much TV, but we have found that whenever we are home all day for breaks it helps the sanity of all to let the 4 year old watch a movie while the 2 year old naps.
  • Yoga or trying to fit in a workout with kids – the hubs and I fit in a post-bedtime work out in the gym but that’s it. Potty training requires constant vigilance so I was unable to find time during the day, and the nap/bedtime routine was incredibly difficult this week so I was too exhausted in the evening to bother to fit in a workout.
  • Reading – I got the The Liturgical Style Guide in the mail this week and read the whole thing + working my way through The Liturgical Year: The Spiraling Adventure of the Spiritual Life by Joan Chittister over Lent (almost done!)
  • Blogging – an excessive amount; mostly I got my entire undergraduate thesis serialized
  • Spending time with friends with kids – with potty training we stayed close to home but we scheduled a playdate for William with a school friend + Catholic friends from the neighborhood came over for a backyard Stations of the Cross. Then Sunday night friends came over with pizza – everyone got warnings of a half naked toddler!
  • Hanging out with Ito & Ita – my parents took William to a model train show and they stayed for dinner Saturday + Grandma stayed with us 3 days. Then my parents came back on the last Saturday of spring break.
