I have always loved the Nutcracker, perhaps it is my childhood journey with ballet or the fabulous fantasy world Claire enters or the fact that I love nutcrackers. I dunno, but its one of my absolute favs! In honor of Christmas in Germany this year, here’s a little Nutcracker love.
Not many people know that it is actually book. Although the ballet is much more famous, the book is by E.T.A. Huffmann published in 1816. My sister gave me a copy a few years back along with an adorable German nutcracker she picked up while abroad. I haven’t read it…yet! But I brought it on our Germany trip to read it while here. Figured the timing is perfect!
The most famous version of the ballet is certainly the Balanchine version with the score by Tchaikovsky. It’s perfect! If you haven’t seen it yet, put it on your to do list for this Winter Break!
